The powerhouse ladies behind REALGLEN Properties
Women’s Month in South Africa is always a significant, poignant time to remember our country’s history and shine a spotlight on the courageous, beautiful ladies doing major things in their careers. To celebrate August 9th, REALGLEN Properties took some time to consult our team of expert property professionals who are leading the charge for women in real estate.
Changing an intimidating landscape
Magda Stoffberg, owner and principal of REALGLEN Properties says that she navigates being a woman in this male-dominated field by embracing her unique perspective and strengths. “I focus on building genuine relationships, maintaining integrity and leveraging my experience to provide exceptional service.” Magda remarks on the shift in society relating to how women are perceived in real estate, “There is a growing recognition of our capabilities, and more women are stepping into leadership roles.” She also mentions that the property industry is becoming more inclusive and values the diversity women bring to the table.
A supportive network of hardworking individuals
Chantelle Botha, property practitioner at REALGLEN Properties advises women who are looking to start in real estate, “Stay confident, continuously seek knowledge and build a strong network of mentors and peers.” Chantelle also advises women to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and highlights that perseverance and dedication are key to achieving success.
Lethithea Mathee is also a property practitioner on the REALGLEN Properties team. She states that women have the power to shape the industry perceptions they find themselves boxed in. “By asserting our expertise, women show that we go far and beyond expectations. People have the ability to differentiate the level of care they receive from professionals, and it is with pride that women always deliver.”
Getting constructive in the property economy
The team at REALGLEN Properties have excelled as leaders in their fields and have earned a professional, upstanding reputation in their communities. Specialising in upmarket, luxurious properties, the team also recognises the need for mid-range homes for the average South African consumer. Property Practitioner Ankia Henning says “Expanding access to financing for first-time home buyers and those in lower-income brackets can help more people enter the property market.” She emphasises encouraging energy-efficient building practices as it can reduce environmental impact and long-term costs for owners.
Arlene Marais of REALGLEN Properties shares that she has been in the property business for over 20 years and has learnt a great deal about women empowerment during her time at the company, “I encourage other women to network, build a strong client base and use your contacts to your advantage.” She goes on to add that many more real estate companies are owned by women these days and you could be one of them!
Keeping it real (estate)
The popularity of reality TV shows no signs of slowing down. With the advent of property-based content shows on the rise, we looked at how reality TV has helped bring women to the forefront of this industry. While the majority of portrayals have shifted preconceived stereotypes and contributed greatly towards entertainment value, female estate agents are still often viewed as more laidback with a laissez-faire approach to business. Chantelle notes, “Reality TV can help other women to be inspired to pursue a career in real estate, however, it’s important to have accurate portrayals indicative of the hard work we put in.”
The future is female - looking forward
Magda notes that she is proud of achieving her career goal of being an independent business owner in a fiercely competitive business environment and wants to share the success. REALGLEN Properties gives back to women, by offering mentorship and professional development opportunities. We celebrate all women in every sector who strive for excellence in their field.
